白马湖这匹“马”

其实是个有故事的“老古董” 

For those who work or live in Binjiang, who hasn’t enjoyed a leisure break by the White Horse Lake? However, do you know that this “Horse” is actually an “ancient relic” with stories.

白马湖民间叫法多样：石姥湖、西陵湖、白茫湖、排马湖或跑马湖，每一个都有自己的故事。

说起白马湖悠久的历史，绕不开那段吴越争霸的往事。相传，2400多年前的春秋末期，越王勾践为报亡国之仇，命范蠡训练强兵猛将。范蠡在此地日夜操练军队，不仅训练水兵，还训练步兵，并在白马湖边造船、屯兵、跑马布阵。白马湖岸边常常尘土飞扬，终于练成了一支强大的军队。

当年，人们站在三面环山的群峰中眺览而下，只见万顷碧波、茫茫无际的湖水在此涌动，因而有了白茫湖之说。随着时间的推移，这里逐渐变得广阔无垠，白茫湖、跑马湖在后人的口口相传中，变成了白马湖。

There have been various folk names for the White Horse Lake, such as Shimu Lake, Xiling Lake, Baimang Lake, Paima Lake or Paoma Lake, each with its own story.

When it comes to the long history of the White Horse Lake, people cannot avoid the events of the rivalry between the Wu and Yue Kingdoms. It is said that 2400 years ago, during the late Spring and Autumn period, King Gou Jian of Kingdom Yue ordered Fan Li to train a formidable army in order to avenge his fallen kingdom. Fan Li trained his troops day and night at this place, not only naval soldiers but also infantry. He had ships built and troops stationed near the White Horse Lake, conducted horse-riding maneuvers and practiced battle formations, stirring up clouds of dust along the lakeside until a formidable army was finally forged.

Gazing from the peaks of mountains which surround the lake on three sides at that time, people saw vast expanses of blue waves surging across the lake and thus named it Baimang Lake (literally, the Vast White Lake). As time went by and this place became vaster, “Baimang Lake” and “Paoma Lake” evolved into “Baima Lake”, namely the White Horse Lake, through words passed down from generations to generations.

Till now, this “Horse” is over 2400 years old. “A hardcore battlefield” as it used to be in history, the White Horse Lake is now “a paradise for flower enthusiasts”, constantly making its presence throughout the year in the most vibrant way.

蔷薇与月季

白马湖公园二期的月季和蔷薇的美貌“卷”到不行，尤其是婚庆广场附近的花海，四五月份开得那叫一个“嚣张”，红的粉的爬满廊架，被誉为“杭州顶流蔷薇瀑布”。

The beauty of Chinese roses and wild roses in Phase II of the White Horse Lake Park is way too intense, especially that of the sea of flowers near the Wedding Plaza. Roses burst exuberantly in April and May, with red and pink blossoms climbing and covering the trellises all over, earning the reputation of “Top Rose-Falls in Hangzhou”.

逛累了直接往大草坪上一躺——在足足21000平方米的阳光草坪上，帐篷一支、野餐垫一铺，这才是春天该有的松弛感，能从中午躺到日落的那种。

People can throw themselves onto the lawn after a long walk— the vast Sunny Lawn of 21,000 square meters. Set up a tent, spread out a picnic mat, and rest from noon till sunset, and that’s the very vibe of relaxation that spring is all about.

夏日，漫步湖边，看碧叶荷花随风摇曳，配上湖面的凉风，是盛夏最治愈的打开方式。

Take a stroll around the lake and watch the dance of lotus leaves and flowers over a cool summer breeze, and that’s the most soothing way to embrace the summer.

等到九月十月，白马湖的向日葵花海开始变得金灿灿。秋高气爽的日子，在向日葵花田里穿行，向着光的方向奔跑，每一步都浸着明朗的气息。

In September and October, the sunflowers near the White Horse Lake bloom into a golden sea. Walking through the sunflower field and running towards the light on clear autumn days, every step brings happiness and refreshment. 

冬天的白马湖，依然能觅得花香。梅花在寒风中悄然上线，粉色的花朵缀满枝头，不张扬、不喧闹，静静等候着有心之人，前来赴这场冬日的温柔之约。

In winter, fragrance of flowers still lingers over the White Horse Lake. Plum blossoms bloom quietly in harsh wind, with pink petals adorning the branches. Neither showy nor noisy, they stand quietly, waiting for the right people to come and join this gentle date in winter.

闻着花香走在小路上，耳边全是小鸟叽叽喳喳的BGM，惬意极了。

得益于白马湖的生态环境治理，这里早就成了鸟类的快乐老家。翠鸟、鹊鸲、田鹨、东亚石䳭、小黑水鸡、夜鹭……还有成群结队划过头顶的金翅雀，都是这里的常驻居民。

Walking along the path full of flower fragrance with the chirping of birds as the BGM, it is very pleasant.

Thanks to the ecological environment management of the White Horse Lake, this place has long become the happy home for birds, such as kingfisher, oriental magpie-robin, Richard’s pipit, Amur stonechat, lesser moorhen, black-crowned night-heron, as well as flocks of oriental greenfinch over the head, all of which are regular residents here.
